‘Joyous Vision #2’ is my colourful search for another dimension of possibilities, through abstraction, to experience the joy of colour. My ongoing journey to explore how shapes and colours make me feel continues in this piece where I push energy and design into the picture plane.

My compositional placement of shapes and colours using opaque and transparent pigments allows some of the various layers to show what lies beneath and working with textural media increases the tactile nature of the painting.

‘Land’ is a slight departure from my total abstract work by creating sky and land forms in a colour palette, of my choosing, which is unrealistic in nature but true to my visualisation. Whenever I construct a landscape it’s usually a place I would like to visit in a sort of ‘magical exploration’ sense and to feel the freedom of space, air and light.

‘Contemplation’is an unusual piece for me being thoughtfully considered in composition and configuration placing ‘islands of colour’ in a minimalist style to give space and a liberating clarity to the forms contained within.

A roughly textured horizontal plane and suspended motifs contrast with smooth tones in an open field design showing saturated and neutral hues together in balanced harmony.

‘The Calling’ started its journey as a semi abstract mountainous landscape but I soon realised it was going nowhere, it was pedestrian and stilted so out came my palette knife and big brushes to cover the canvas in a totally new direction, I had received the call from my inner self and it couldn’t be denied!

Received wisdom often dictates ‘less is more’ but with my quest for a joyous vision this steers me towards ‘more is more’ and that too much is sometimes just right!

It may not match your sofa but will bring a colourful focal point in your home or office.

The artwork, to some, may look like a cacophony or mishmash of hues thrown together in a random manner but I expend a lot of energy, with careful consideration, melding all the pieces of this ‘jigsaw puzzle’ into a cohesive manifestation of what I feel about the colour relationships and overall design with a sprinkling of ‘magical experimentation’ in abstraction.

My paintings have recently been published in Art/Edit national art magazine, hung in Diversarty gallery Sydney and my own solo gallery exhibition in Newcastle.
